DUNEDIN — Jeremy Guthrie was pounded in his second consecutive spring start, giving up three home runs, including two by Toronto’s Travis Snider as the Jay crushed the Orioles, 13-3.

The Orioles right-hander gave up seven runs on seven hits in three innings after allowing four runs on eight hits in 3 1-3 innings Saturday in a 5-3 loss to the New York Yankees.

John Buck also hit two home runs, Aaron Hill had a two-run shot and left-hander Ricky Romero pitched five innings and gave up five hits for the Blue Jays.

Yankees 6, Rays 4

TAMPA — Derek Jeter hit a two-run double and Javier Vazquez went three innings, allowing one run and two hits. Vazquez had three strikeouts and two walks

Jeter flexed his throwing hand several times after diving for a ball in the fourth, but remained in the game.

Carl Crawford went 0 for 2, walked and stole a base for Tampa Bay.

Braves 5, Cardinals 3

JUPITER — Rich Hill didn’t do anything to improve his bid to become St. Louis’ fifth starter, allowing three earned runs on two hits and five walks.

Chipper Jones homered for the Braves and Tim Hudson pitched five innings, allowing one run on four hits with four strikeouts.

Cardinals outfielder Matt Holliday still has not swung a bat since injuring his rib cage on March 10.

Tigers 5, Astros 4

LAKELAND — Dontrelle Willis is making a case for a spot in Detroit’s rotation, pitching three scoreless innings and allowing one hit against Houston.

Willis said he wanted to go longer but was having back spasms and was willing to settle for three innings. Tigers manager Jim Leyland said there was no reason to risk further injury to Willis, who has a 1.29 ERA after three starts this spring.

Brennan Boesch had a game-ending single in the ninth.

Mets 5, Marlins 2

JUPITER — Jeff Francouer and Jason Bay each hit a two-run home run to New York.

Oliver Perez gave up hits to six of the first 13 batters he faced, allowing two earned runs over four innings.

While Perez struggled, Marlins right-hander Ricky Nolasco struck out seven of the first 12 batters he faced. Nolasco was perfect through 4 1-3 innings before Bay doubled to right. Francouer followed with his first homer of the spring.

Twins 5, Pirates 4

FORT MYERS — Jim Thome slugged his first home run in a Twins uniform as Minnesota overcame three Pittsburgh homers.

Third baseman Luke Hughes drove in the winning run in the bottom of the ninth, and starter Carl Pavano struck out two and gave up one hit in five innings.

Jason Jaramillo, Delwyn Young and Jeff Clement homered, and Ross Ohlendorf struck out two and gave up two runs in four innings for the Pirates.
