Tampa Bay Buccaneers have annouced the team has re-signed S Jermaine Phillips and TE Jerramy Stevens.
The signing of both players are significant for Tampa Bay, which has made re-signing its own players priority number one this offseason.
Phillips was Tampa Bay’s starting safety last season, and after visiting Seattle and San Diego, he decided to remain a Buccaneer.
Meanwhile, Stevens was arguably Tampa Bay’s best pass-catching tight end last season. Tampa Bay arguably has the best pass-catching tandem in the NFL with Stevens and Kellen Winslow.

And Stephens was our best pass catching TE we’ve had here in years. The guys won two-three games with big catches alone. Smith? NONE. Smith hasn’t made but a rare big catch every 6-8 games. And never for a score.

Jeremiah. Tampa doesn’t have a QB to get the TE’s the ball? Are you kidding? Your knowledge on TE football is simply amazing. Dude. Its the shortest pass for a QB in the game. Stop it!

I’m sorry, but Stevens doesn’t “keep getting caught.” He didn’t get caught for the supposed rape. He hasn’t been caught doing anything in Tampa. He got in some alcohol-related trouble when he was younger. So what? Would you rather him shoot himself, get caught with guns and drugs, or some of the other stupid things players around the league do? Get over his past. His teammates seem to like him and he hasn’t been in trouble. I couldn’t ask for much more other than that he not drop anymore passes.

We need to keep Smith. He’s probably the best all around TE we have. Gilmore is the best blocker, so I can’t see them giving him up with this new O. We’ll have 4 TEs and 1 less WR. We’ll be fine. 3 of our TEs are pretty good receivers.

Hey, Horace, tmapa - I’m right here. Bringing Stevens back is a brutal move. hate it, hate it, hate it.
1) he’s a dirt bag with no character
2) he’s marginally productive.
3) he’s a dirt bag
4) he’s stupid. maybe he’s not the only dirt bag on the team but he’s the only one stupid enough to keep getting caught.
Bringing Phillips back is a great move. He’s a nice veteran piece to keep in place during the rebuild. He is still on top of his game…now lets hope we get the full 19 games (a dude can dream right?)we need out of him this year.

Wow we’re going into next season with 2 kickers and 4 Tight Ends…I sense some more trades. Alex Smith is pretty valuable, I think he’ll be the guy traded

Greg Martin,
I don’t know what games your watching but I’ve seen all the games that Stevens has played here. Honestly man… I’ve seen him make some key catch’s that saved games for us. Not 1 but a few of them. Also I’ve seen him catch more then he droped. Am I missing something here or what ? Are you getting him mixed up with Clayton ?

Stevens will continue to drop crucial balls, and go off half-cocked the rest of the time. We should have traded him.

I think we need to turn an English teacher loose on some posters. Last year, Stevens got more balls thrown to him than Smith and he edged him by 397 yards to 250 and 3 TD’s to 2 by Smith. But, Smith edged Stevens out in the avg of 11.9 yards per catch to 11.0 by Stevens. Stevens dropped more balls than Smith. In 2007, Smith had superior numbers. Surprise… Clayton had better receiving numbers than both of them.Don’t need Stevens. Throw him back in the water.

Good moves in my opinion. I really thought that we needed to bring Phillips back. I’m not so sure about needing Stevens after we got Winslow but he deffinately brings a bunch of athleticism to the table. I don’t really have an opinion on Cortez Hankton because he hasn’t played. Go Bucs!

bucfan4life, can you point me in the direction of an article/video where a current Buc has come out and stated that they are “very unhappy w/ they direction the Bucs are going”? i don’t recall hearing any current Buc saying that. I’d be interested in reading/listening to those reports.
and don’t say Haynesworth. he is not a Buc and has nothing to do with team chemistry.

jason, i couldnt agree with you more!
but in all ive been saying we needa bring flip back he’s the best safty out there available and there isnt any good quality saftys you could get in the draft either. Plus when healty him an t-jack are the best tandem in the nfl they both hit hard and work well together im so happy to see you back flip! GO BUCS!!

I think everyone agrees and is happy returing jermain phillips..we need him at ss cause sabby isn’t the answer IMO..Alot of u guys don’t like stephens..but lets be honest.he can make plays down the field..him and winslow on the field at the same time could be nice..and what alot of u do forget.is injuries do happen in the nfl and quality backup are a MUST.
go BucS

Guess this was a little more imminent that Roy’s sources thought. Maybe they thought he was talking about Craig Stevens?

I an so glad they they sign J Phillips, Whats I’m a little shock. But I guess that Tampa is going ahead and used alot of Double TE’s and Double Wr’s sistutations. How about bring in Williams from Dallas, And do you think that the organization wants also bring in TO also! would he really think thast he could finally straighten himself out. I guess we have Stevens, Tampa could get TO also. If we do then TO would pay Dallas heavy when they meet Tampa and Tamps this year.

Im thinking Mr. Smith for draft picks. A shame, as I like him, but Stevens was there when we needed him a LOT last year.

trust in Rah

Both are good signings. Winslow also lines up as WR alot. Throws D’s off. Winslow is actually TE/WR.

Too bad we dont have a QB to get our TEs the ball
Posted by philentrek, on 03/05 at 07:20 PM
pewterreport is saying that angelo crowell is coming to visit on monday. if we can sign him then suddenly we dont have as many glaring needs as we thought we would coming into the draft.. the way i look at the qb situation luke mccown should give us at least what jeff garcia gave us, plus a stronger running game, more weapons, and 1 more year of experience for a young tough o-line. i trust raheem to develop the db’s, look what he did with 4th rounder tanard jackson and how much talib imroved during the season. hopefully we can close on crowell and have a very strong draft. the key is developing our young guys. GO BUCS!

Uuuuh, bucfan4life…
1) All CAPS is unnecessary
2) The word you are looking for is “lose” not “loose”
3) We have a lot to lose: money, team chemistry…
4) You’re dumb.

Phillips good, Stevens bad.
