Baseball players R.J. Brown and Trent Tagliarini each closed their school day Wednesday the exact same way - by celebrating after signing a four-year scholarship.
Brown, a senior pitcher at Bloomingdale, signed with Florida Gulf Coast University, while Tagliarini, a senior infielder at Cambridge Christian, signed with Quincy University.
If there was a common theme at each Signing Day celebration, it was that enough good things couldn’t be said about each player.
Bloomingdale coach Kris Wilken remarked how he believes this is just the next step in the baseball career for Brown, who was the latest Bulls athlete to sit behind the famed “Signing Bull” in the conference room at Bloomingdale High. Brown was joined by several family members, coaches and fellow students to celebrate the occasion, one he didn’t take for granted.
“I’m grateful to get this opportunity,” he said.
Tagliarini sat in a packed multi-purpose room at Cambridge Christian School as several well-wishers spoke about his ability and determination, two things that paved the way for him to get the chance to play college baseball. He even received an email from what will be his next baseball coach, Quincy’s Brian Unger, who stated Tagliarini was the first player he’d signed during the early period - and the first player he ever wanted to sign early.
“That means a lot,” Tagliarini said. “It’s a lot easier [to know I made the right choice] knowing that they really want you.”
