TAMPA - The Bucs will probably be without starting right guard Davin Joseph when the season opens in New Orleans on Sept. 7.
Joseph broke his foot during Sunday’s game against the Patriots and likely will miss at least a month’s worth of action, the Tribune has learned.
The Bucs are expected to replace Joseph with rookie guard Jeremy Zuttah, but there is also a chance the team will scour the wavier wire for a replacement.
Joseph, a third-year pro, likely will miss the season opener for the second time in his career. The Oklahoma product missed the first three games of his rookie season with a knee injury.

Naw...it’s just as serious as has been announced. Bogle is a camp body, filling a spot made available by Davin’s injury. He won’t last beyond the first cuts, and definitely won’t make the 53 man roster to start the season. We just needed another lineman for the practice rotation.
I suppose he could surprise everyone and make the team, but I doubt it.
For now, Zuttah will likely take the job and Beunning will be the super-backup. Zuttah will have the opportunity to “win” the job with stellar play...but it’s more likely that when Davin returns in Week 2 or 3, Zuttah will step back.

We just added more depth to the line, we signed Phil Bogle. He can play tackle and guard. Maybe this injury is more serious than what we think.

Hello EMail Fans, I can see that Tampa drafted a young man who can play all three offensive line positions. I think that this year Tampa Offensive line will probably the best line they have had since I follow them they started. If the pre-season game against NE is any predemptions of the ground attack and protecting the QB’s Tampa offensive will take off I think in the TOP 10 this year along with a top 3 Defensive team. Tampa could be headed back to deep in the playoffs.

Picking up Zuttah in the 3rd round just looks like a better and better pick as the days go on. Sure, a month ago, it was nothing more than an insurance policy - a luxury. Now, we’d be in some hot water if he weren’t on the team. Even if he doesn’t start in place of Joseph [but he likely will], his versatility as a backup is just as valuable as his potential as a starter/place-holder.
Nice pick up Gruden/Allen!

What kind of broken foot? ankle, toe, duh!

Zuttah will be fine and will keep the oline to standard untill davin gets back.

That being said, the piece below talking about Zuttah sure does show how quick a study he’s been:
“Zuttah was drafted primarily to provide the Bucs with depth, but he has proved to be a quick study, learning not only the Bucs’ complex offensive playbook, but also three positions (right guard, left guard and center) since workouts began.”
For a Rookie to have already learned 3 positions (LG, C, RG) in Grudens’ system has got to be some kind of record! I say may the best man win.

For all of the Dan Buenning lovers out there.... before you jump to conclusions, here is what Gruden actually said: “We’ll look at rookie Jeremy Zuttah over there, and veteran Dan Buenning has the ability to go in there,” Gruden said. “We’ll adjust if we have to adjust. The show goes on.”
So Zuttah hasn’t been declared the Week 1 starter. The best player over the next 3 weeks will start at RG.

Gruden has been raving all summer about this kid and I believe there is a reason why he is starting over Dan Buenning and Anthony Davis. I trust my coach is making the best decision for the team… GO BUCS!!!

Why is no one talking about Anthony Davis? Anthony is a very good lineman. The Bucs rushing attack is more successful with him in there. When he starts, the team averages an extra yard per carry. He should replace Joseph.

Zuttah over Buenning because Zuttah is taking the first team snaps and Gruden has a man crush on him.

WHY Zuttah, (He’s a keeper, but) a rookie, over Buenning, a former starter who played great until injured??? It’s such an obvious question I’m amazed a reporter writes the story on Joseph and doesn’t think to find out about Buenning. Something is not being told here that should be...what!? BTW, Davin isn’t the only starter lost...Petitgout was slated to be the starter all along til the slow healing and the drug use came out. That’s 40% of the O-Line gone.

Arizona doesnt want to trade Boldin. If they do trade him the Eagles would be the first to jump on him.

Bummer.
Our offensive line did so well that it made Griese look great against New England’s first string defense, and made all our running backs look like badasses. Sure hope we get to see more of what we can do with a dominant O-line. Get well soon Joe.
Also, I’ve beening screaming it for months now...we should definetly offer a 1st round pick to Arizona for Boldin. Doesn’t hurt to try.

why is there always an assumption that everyone who wants to be traded is available,..I bet you Gruden and Allen would give the moon for Boldin, but he’s currently under contract with Arizona, and they have made it clear they have no plans to trade Boldin.

Why arent we going after Boldin? He doesnt wanna play in AZ...trade Clayton and a HIGH draft pic to get this guy. Boldin is young and an absolute beast.

Thank goodness we drafted Zuttah and don’t forget Beunning; who’s ready to put in a few good starts I’m sure. This is a tough loss, but good management of our team allows us to move on without a huge loss. Let’s hope it stays at just this loss.

Kenny,
The difference is that Joseph will have 3 weeks to heal BEFORE the season starts and in the worst case scenario of 4-8 weeks he is back by week 5, him being a valuable starter is also a factor. Piscitelli broke his foot in week 3 and could have been back by week 11 but 8 weeks is far too long to carry a player on the roster that is only a special teamer.

This stinks… I hope it’s a minor fracture and not something like what Sabby had… I guess Injuries are the only thing that can stop us in our division repeat quest…

Rub some dirt on it & get back out there.

Didn’t Sabby break his foot in week 3 of the season and had to miss the whole year, so how can Joseph be back 4-6 weeks

Great. Best offensive line we’ve had in years, and one guy is already down injured.
