Brignac, Thayer to join Rays

FORT LAUDERDALE—Been quite a travel day so far, sorry for the delay.

The Rays will have two new players suited up tonight, infielder Reid Brignac and reliever Dale Thayer.

I don’t know at this point what the corresponding moves will be, but I imagine at least one will involve a DL trip.

Updating: As we await official word on the moves, one thing to consider: Thayer being brought up doesn’t necessarily mean it’s going to be a couple of relievers getting DL’ed. If one is Kazmir, for instance, his next rotation turn doesn’t come until Monday, so there’s little reason to bring up another starter now. You shore up your bullpen for a few days, then bring a starter up Monday and send a reliever out.

In case you’re wondering on that front, looks like Carlos Hernandez would be the guy on proper rest if they do need a starter that day. And they wouldn’t have trouble clearing a 40-man spot for him. Fernando Perez and Chad Bradford still are on the 15-day DL and not the 60-day, so Perez for sure and Bradford likely would be able to transfer to the 60-day with no real effect on their return dates.

Riggins or Perez could go on the 60 day DL and your trip to the DL for someone.

You might want to find out why the Rays’ closer was on a airplane going to Las Vegas this morning

As far as the rotation spot, if it is Kaz going to the DL, couldnt they just hold Price back uh, 2 days to pitch Mon instead of Sat? That will be the tell tale sign IMO…... And bringing up Brignac seems to smell like one of the 2 Gabes could be going away or on the DL so Zoby can play everyday not having to fill in at SS….

That’s it Rays…..keep Sonnestine and Kazmir in the rotation!! These moves made today are like putting bandaides on bleeding wounds that need sutures!!

I agree with Steve.Keeping the ‘Terrible Twins’ (Kazmir & Sonnestine) with their ridiculously miserable ERAs and WHIPS in the rotation, is a mistake.

ITS HIGH TIME SOME MOVES WERE MADE. THEY LUCKED OUT LAST NIGHT, BUT IT WON’T CONTINUE WITHOUT CHANGE. PERCIVAL DID HIS BEST, BUT HE’S OVER THE HILL. THE JURY IS STILL OUT ON KAZMIR, BUT I THINK HE NEED A SPORTS PSYCHOLOGIST IMMETIATEY.HE’S OUT OF SYNC, AND CAN’T DO IT ALONE.
AS FAR AS PRICE, HE WON’T HELP THE TEAM, SINCE HIS ERA AT DURHAM IS ALMOST 4.00. JOE MADDON IS GOING TO HAVE TO PULL EVERY RABBIT HE HAS OUT OF HIS HATS, IF HE HOPES TO SALVAGE THIS SEASON.
