BALTIMORE—Reid Brignac’s stellar night at the plate yesterday earned him another start, as he’ll be in the lineup at second base for the second game of this set against the Orioles.
Brignac, who went 4-for-4 with two doubles and a homer, said he’s still getting comfortable playing second after spending his whole life as a shortstop, but he feels comfortable enough there that he believes he could handle the position in the future if that’s what it came to.
With nothing else to play for at the moment, the Rays will look to bolster Jeff Niemann’s Rookie of the Year candidacy by helping him get a win tonight. He’s been stuck on 12 victories since Aug. 24, getting no decision in his last three starts despite allowing a total of four runs in 21 2/3 innings against the Tigers (twice) and Yankees.
Here’s the Rays’ full lineup:
Bartlett SS
Crawford LF
Longoria 3B
Zobrist RF
Burrell DH
Aybar 1B
Upton CF
Navarro C
Brignac 2B
Niemann P
