Jesuit senior left-handed pitcher Daniel Gibson was selected in the 26th round (789th overall) by the Milwaukee Brewers in Tuesday’s MLB draft.
Gibson, the Tribune’s Baseball Player of the Year this season, went 14-1 with a 1.64 ERA this season for the Tigers, who finished as the Class 4A state runner-up. In 89 2/3 innings pitched, Gibson struck out 139, walked 31 and allowed 66 hits.
Gibson, who has signed with Florida, is the third Hillsborough County senior to be selected today in the draft. Brooks-DeBartolo infielder Jadamion Williams (Minnesota Twins; 10th round) and Brandon catcher Roderick Shoulders (Boston Red Sox; 20th round) were the others.
