Lightning top prospect Brett Connolly scored twice in his Tampa Bay debut, but it proved to be the only offense for the Lightning in a 4-2 loss to St. Louis at the Traverse City prospects tournament in Michigan.
Connolly, the sixth overall pick in the 2010 draft, opened the scoring 4:13 into the game finishing off a 2-on-1 with 2009 first-round pick Carter Ashton. St. Louis would score three unanswered goals before Connolly cut the deficit to one on a redirection of a James Wright pass early in the third period. The Blues scored their final goal with 2:24 left in the game. Dustin Tokarski stopped 31 shots to take the loss.
Tampa Bay will face tournament host Detroit tonight at 6, which will be Lightning general manager Steve Yzerman’s first time facing his former team in a competitive situation.
