The Jefferson High School girls basketball team will arrive at school on Friday morning, eat a pregame meal, then board a bus for the Class 4A state tournament at the Lakeland Center.
It’s a quick turnaround. But the Dragons (28-3) face Pensacola (27-2) at 11:30 a.m.
“I’m not sure any of us are really morning people, but we’ll be fine,’’ Dragons junior guard Laurie’ Beaty said.
“It’s not a big deal at all if you play AAU ball because they have games at all times of the day and night,’’ Dragons senior guard Jade Givens said.
Jefferson athletic director Bob Morgan said the school is providing spirit buses for students and teachers. As of Thursday morning, there were 180 people who signed up for the buses, which will arrive in Lakeland about 30 minutes before tipoff.
If the Dragons win, they play on Saturday afternoon and could capture the first state title in school history. The original Jefferson High School began in 1939, then reopened at its current campus in 1973.
