Brandon senior baseball player Roderick Shoulders has verbally committed to Manatee Community College.
Shoulders, a catcher/first baseman, missed most of his junior year after suffering a torn labrum early in the season. He managed to appear in seven games, most coming during the Eagles’ playoff run, and hit .391 with two doubles and six RBIs.
As a sophomore, Shoulders was one of the Eagles’ top performers. He hit .414 with eight doubles, six home runs and 39 RBIs while helping Brandon reach the Class 5A state tournament.
Shoulders, who also considered an offer from Santa Fe Community College, said there were two big factors that helped him settle on Manatee; one was the fact his parents would still be able to watch him play on a regular basis, and the other was that his teammate, shortstop Spencer Haynes, also will be attending Manatee.
Haynes committed to Manatee in November.
