Brandon wrestler Tyler Liberatore on Saturday claimed his second national wrestling at the ASICS/Vaughan Junior and Cadet National Championships in Fargo, N.D.
Liberatore won the Junior Freestyle 130-pound championship with a 5-2, 2-1 decision over Minnesota’s Matt Kelliher. Earlier in the week Liberatore claimed the 130-pound national championship in the Junior Greco-Roman division.
Liberatore, a rising junior, was the only Florida wrestler to win national titles in both styles. He went a combined 20-0 at the event between the two styles.
Two other Brandon wrestlers, Kevin Norstrem and Wally Figaro, also placed in the top eight at their respective weight in the Freestyle division to earn All-American honors. Norstrem was fourth at 125 pounds, and Figaro was fifth at 160 pounds.
Also, Dylan Lucas, representing the Brandon Kids Club, finished seventh in the 91-pound Cadet Freestyle division. Lucas was the 91-pound national champion in Greco-Roman.
