The only team able to contain Brandon senior running back Tyrell Garner this season happens to be the No. 2 ranked team in the nation. That’s saying a lot about Brandon’s leading rusher.
Though the effort was futile, Garner still gave it his all in the 54-6 season-opening loss to Armwood.
“He was still playing like the game was on the line,” Brandon coach John Lima said earlier this season.
All season, Garner has put up eye-catching numbers against some of the county’s top teams, albeit Armwood limited the Eagles to 32 total yards in the first half. On Friday night, however, Garner had 131 rushing yards and two touchdowns against Plant, marking the first time the Panthers have allowed a single 100-yard rusher this season.
Since the Armwood, game, Garner has rushed for more than 100 yards in each game: 340 against Freedom, 113 against Durant, 147 against Sickles and 124 against Newsome.
Brandon plays Riverview on Thursday.
