Boys Soccer: King’s Scrivens headed to Coker College

King High soccer player Steven Scrivens has committed to Division II Coker College in North Carolina, making him the second player from Tampa to commit to the Cobras for next season.

Scrivens said he was excited to continue his career in college, with the impression Cobras coach Paul Leese made on him proving an important factor in his decision. He will join his Florida Soccer Club teammate Jason Getreu, who also plays for Tampa Catholic, with the Cobras.

“I met (Leese), and he’s a really good guy, a really good coach,” Scrivens said. The Cobras won the Conference Carolinas Men’s soccer tournament on Sunday in Leese’s first season in charge.

Scrivens scored seven goals and added three assists for the Lions as a junior, and opened his account for the new season with a goal in the Lions’ 4-0 victory against Wharton on Monday night. Scrivens said he thinks the Lions have a chance to make a run at the postseason.

“I think so,” Scrivens said. “I think we have a chance to go really far, we just have to keep it up.”
