One season after the first playoff berth in program history—and the program’s first winning record—the Bloomingdale Bulls regressed to an 0-10 mark in 2009. Coach John Booth’s first season was a “learning year’’ and he expects a turnaround.
“I believe we have the talent here,’’ Booth said Monday on the opening day of practice. “We’ve got kids who have worked extremely hard and now the key is getting them to believe in themselves.
“It’s always tough when you’re battling tradition and a lot of losing years. I think it would mean a lot to get an early win and get the ball rolling in the right direction.’‘
Booth said he has a corps of young players who gained experience last season. Every member of Bloomingdale’s defense has starting experience. Meanwhile, on offense, the Bulls are breaking in a new quarterback with junior David Dittfeld. The search is on for a primary running back, but Booth said the offensive line, led by tackles Christian Kerr and Jake Smith, is capable of big things.
“Last year was a tough one,’’ Booth said. “We want to wipe the slate clean, but build on the positives. I believe we can get it done here. I really do.’‘
