Blake athletic director Stephen Williams said he first he’d heard of the school’s football team being suspended from further play by the Florida High School Athletic Association was when he opened the paper Tuesday morning.
Williams said the FHSAA requested two sets of rosters, one at the beginning of the season and another later on for the steroid-testing program. The FHSAA claims they never received the second roster from Blake.
Blake is scheduled to play in the program’s biggest game of the year Saturday, a night game against Middleton at Raymond James Stadium.
According to Williams, however, the FHSAA made a mistake.
“Our rosters are in,” Williams said. “The first one was on time but the second one was late. I placed a call to the FHSAA and our county athletic office. We have a copy of the fax we sent.”
Williams said he doesn’t see any reason why Blake shouldn’t be able to play Saturday and asked the FHSAA to release a correction immediately.
