Bishop McLaughlin catcher T.J. Wharton gave a verbal commitment to play baseball at the University of North Carolina-Greensboro.
Wharton, a junior, batted .429 with 29 RBIs and two homers in 2009, his sophomore season. His commitment makes him the first baseball player at the school to commit to a Division I program.
When he starts his career at North Carolina-Greensboro, Wharton will join Marcel Duarte (Johns Hopkins), Mike Gonzalez (Carson Newman), Taylor McGillis (Saint Leo) and Jeff Pope (Oglethorpe) as former Bishop McLaughlin baseball players to move on to the college ranks and play.
