The flu and a growing number of absences at Bishop McLaughlin have prompted administrators to close the school for the remainder of the week.
Friday night’s football game, which was to be at Canterbury in St. Petersburg, has been moved to 6 p.m. October 15. Also, Thursday night’s volleyball match at home against Tampa Prep has been postponed.
“We’ve had a number if absences this week and it’s been cold/flu related,” Bishop McLaughlin athletic director Eddie Kenny told The Tampa Tribune Wednesday. “Just the traditional cold and flu. There’s been no swine, so the principal has decided to close the school for the next two days in order to give a clean wipe and disinfect the facilities. Just a proactive approach to try and just knock it out of the area. Hopefully take care of it and get everybody back healthy and back to normal; school days with full attendance.”
The decision to close the school was made Wednesday morning, Kenny said.
Kenny couldn’t speculate on the total number of students, who have complained of flulike symptoms, but he did admit because the campus is small, any number of absences are noticeable.

I play wide receiver for bishop mclaughlin and even though we are winless so far, we still think we can pull out wins in our conference games. We are ready for HCA on our homecoming game! Go Canes!
