Bills LB Angelo Crowell To Visit Tampa

Posted Mar 6, 2009 by Anwar S. Richardson

Updated Mar 6, 2009 at 01:11 PM

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers will attempt to fill its linebacker void next week when Buffalo free agent Angelo Crowell visits Tampa.

Crowell will be in Tampa on Monday and Tuesday according to Todd France, his agent. The biggest key for Crowell will be passing a physical.

Last season, Crowell (6-foot-1, 246 pounds), an outside linebacker, had surgery on his left knee and spent the year on injured reserve.

If healthy, Crowell could have an immediate impact on a team that recently released two starting linebackers (Derrick Brooks and Cato June).

In 2007, Crowell had 126 tackles and two sacks and one interception. He has 346 career tackles and seven sacks since Buffalo made him a third round draft pick in 2003.

Old news. This was reported by multiple sites yesterday.

He would fill a big need though.

How come the Bucs never think about or ever attempt to trade up in the draft. Since cutting Brooks & our get younger plan I would think that the Bucs would entertain the thought of trading up and possible signing Cushing.

Walter most deals to move up happen on draft day and only happen if there is a specific player the team wants. Since we have many holes there will certainly be someone at 19 that we can use so why burn picks and move up??

Do not know much about LB Crowell from Buffalo.  However, he is at least 29yrs old & coming off surgery.  Not good. Glazers will NOT spend the money on quality free agents. PERIOD.  Tank Johnson/Cowboys & V Holliday/Miami are two DL/DE who would instantly upgrade the weak Bucs defense.  Bucs offense will have to score 40 pts a game for them to win.

Do any of you guys go the Pat Y’s blog on ESPN? He has a lot of good information. I suggest you go there before putting stupid things like what you have written. Also the Glazer’s have nothing to do with who the BUC’s bring in and how much is spent as long as it is under the cap! They are not Al Davis.

michael, you are naive. obviously the glazers are NOT spending a lot and cutting corners where they can. if you dont see that then you’re blind.

Crowell was an outstanding LB in college.  His first couple years with the Bills he was a stud when it came to stuffing the run.  I think he led the team in tackles a couple years back.  He reminds me of James Farrior with the Steelers.  They both have a nose for the ball.

That might be a good signing. Hes better then not having anything. Hopefully he is 100% from his surgury. He has alot of tackels in a very little time.

I think this is great. But How about management bring Brooks and CATO back on board this year. Tampa has all this cap space, It would be a great move to ensure the fans around the country that Tampa is not moving back ward. But forward. Now if we don’t bring in another QB, Draft Freeman with pick #19, Then Tampa does have Griese, He could help the younger QB in their progress. Look at Baltimore, they did with a rookie QB. Couldn’t McGown be that QB at Tampa. GO BUCS

George, wouldn’t Tampa be heading backwards if we resigned Brooks and June after cutting them?  And since when is it priority 1 to ensure the fans are onboard with all roster moves.  This is a football team, not a popularity contest.

Why would we entertain signing this guy Crowell @ age 29? Did’nt we cut June and he’s 29 I thought we were getting younger. We need to trade up in the draft and pick Cushing. We already gave up our 2nd rnd pick for Winslow so trade up our first rnd pick and some money since were not lookin to spend it.

So far, we have done nothing to shore up the “Swiss Cheese” D line.  We have actually lost one of the better run stoppers.  Signing this FA LB does not help the glaring holes that existed last year and still do.  If we don’t fix this, all of the NFC South teams will be licking their lips to run over and through our weak and porous D line!

If Angelo Crowell can come back healthy this year then he has the chance to be the biggest steal of this Free Agent class.  He is very talented and physical.  If we can sign him then I think we’ll draft a DT.  If we can’t sign him then I think we need to draft a LB like I’ve been saying all along.

From Pat’s blog on ESPN

“Very quietly, the New Orleans Saints might be having the best offseason of any NFC South team.

A back-handed compliment? Maybe so, since Carolina and Atlanta have done virtually nothing and Tampa Bay might have taken a couple of steps back.”

He and Winslow will be co-habitating in the trainers room. Another bum knee player. This team will be limping by the second regular season game.

Seems like they are going for bigger LB’s (245 vs 225 lbs) along with the youth. Be careful asking for Tank Johnson. He hasn’t done anything out here for the Cowboys. Looks like they signed Olshansky.

Por (Mike Caudill) on March 07, 2009 (Suggest removal)

Pat from ESPN also states that the BUCS are not done. I think the BUCS will and should draft a DT, I think they will bring in a DT like Tank Johnson, and I think they will bring in a CB, and Jason Taylor….. Remember JT played for Bates in Miami and was at his best then. That way they bring in someone that knows his style of defense.

Stop the LB carousel bring back Brooks.  He is still a performer and can operate at a high level.  Go get another LB when the market is more conducive to locating one.  Why pay big $$ for someone elses broken down second hand castoffs.  We made a hasty decision in cutting Brooks.  Now make it right - BRING HIM BACK!!!

Por (Sean) on March 07, 2009 (Suggest removal)

For those of you who are too stupid to look up the right information. Crowell is 27, and the reason we cut June is because he doesn’t fit our defensive scheme anymore.

And please people, Brooks isn;t coming back. Get over it!!!

Mike/Naples:  I believe the Glazers are controlling the dollars GM wants to spend which is the same as saying they will dictate who will sign with the Bucs in free agency.  Still cannot understand how M Clayton gets a contract with $ 11 million 100% in the bank.  New GM is a “horrible” poker player. Clayton had no other offers & Bucs could have had Roy Williams just released by Cowboys.

Por (Tyler Ellrodt) on March 07, 2009 (Suggest removal)

Yea Roy Williams the Safety was just released by the Cowgirls and Clayton did have other offers on the table.  I’m not saying that re signing Clayton was a great move but he is talented and physical.  I’m sure that Jagodzinski will find a way to use him in his offense.

We need a BIG DT.

Por (mike caudill) on March 08, 2009 (Suggest removal)

apkflanyc, Part of Claytons problems have stemmed from Gruden. Yes, he has had some dropped passes but I think he will do well. Clayton reminds me of Hines Ward with his blocking skills. We did not and will not persue Roy Williams because frankly he is no better then what we already have. All the safties we have on the roster are better than Williams is what I am saying.

The Bucs have moved up in the draft before. McKay and Dungy traded thier No. 1 and 2 to move up and pick Kenyatta Walker. Another Gator bust. Clyton’s problems have been due to Clayton. Do you think Parcells or any other top flight NFL coach would have kept that bum around to watch him keep dropping passes after three years. Quit listening to Steve DUImig you kool-aid drinkers. I seriously doubt if Hillard, June, Galloway or Brooks find a starting NFL job this year, if ever. Garcia may, but only as a backup. What does that say.

Por (Kyle Mac) on March 08, 2009 (Suggest removal)

Sean, thank God someone making sense.  Crowell would be an upgrade over last years crew because he is a force against the run.  You want perspective?  Quite watching your 2002 superbowl video and remember the last four games of last season…You know, when the season was on the line…and Brooks and June couldnt stop the run.  And if they are son awsome, why has no GM touched any of the players we released?  Roy Williams?  Who should not play then? Phillips or upcomming star Tenard Jackson…that would be a waste of money.
