In writing a story on USF quarterback B.J. Daniels for The Tampa Tribune’s upcoming Bulls Bonus section, I interviewed a few Big East defensive players at the Big East Football Media Day earlier this month in Rhode Island.
From listening to the interviews, it’s obvious Big East defenses view Daniels as perhaps the most dangerous quarterback they will face all season.
Here are a couple of players talking about Daniels:
“He’s definitely a lot faster than I thought he was and has great field vision. He’s real tough to prepare for. He is going to wreak havoc in the Big East for the next several years. Once he learns how to master the passing game, he is going to be a lot better quarterback. He’ll be one of the better quarterbacks in the nation soon, you’ll see.’’—West Virginia senior LB J.T. Thomas
“He is a different type of quarterback that you have to worry about. He can make all the plays. From watching him on tape, Coach [Greg Schiano] brought up that he reminds him a lot of Mike Vick. As a team, we had to focus all week and play team defense to contain him. Because if you don’t, you’ll get beaten on any given play. He is a big-play waiting to happen. The thing with him, the play is never over. A play can last 10, 12, 15 seconds, because he can run around and then make a big pass. You have to hustle to the football.’’—Rutgers senior safety Joe Lefeged

I am just got my fingers crossed that Daniels, growth and his success continues in Holtz,s new system. I would believe that Holtz would tweak the plan a bit to fit Daniels and that He is not as persistent or Hardheaded (that is my personal opinion) as former coach Jim Leavett when trying to MAKE something work with the wrong parts if you know what I mean…....
