USF junior G Dominique Jones earned Big East Conference Player of the Week honors Monday.
In wins over UCF, San Francisco and San Diego, Jones averaged 22.7 points, 4.7 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 3.7 steals to help the Bulls improve to 3-1 since leading scorer Gus Gilchrist suffered torn ligaments in his right ankle on Dec. 7 during a scrimmage.
Bulls head coach Stan Heath is hopeful Gilchrist can return late next month.
More Big East Conference men’s basketball notes of interest:
—BIG EAST teams are now 134-31 in nonconference games (.812).
—There are now eight unbeaten teams remaining in Division I, including Syracuse (11-0) and West Virginia (8-0).
—The BIG EAST and the Big 12 are the only conferences in the nation in which every team has a winning record. The BIG EAST is the only conference in which every member is at least three games better than .500 this season.
—Monday’s schedule has two BIG EAST teams taking on opponents from the Ivy League. Providence hosts Yale at 7 p.m. Eastern, and St. John’s faces Cornell in the MSG Holiday Festival at 9 p.m.
