The Big East Conference will release its 2010 football schedule on Wednesday.
New USF football coach Skip Holtz already knows he has a difficult schedule in his first season.
The Bulls open at home against Stony Brook on Sept. 4, but then travel to Gainesville to play the Gators in the Swamp the following week. It will be the first meeting between USF and Florida.
The Bulls also have nonconference home games scheduled against Western Kentucky (Sept. 25) and Florida Atlantic (Oct. 2), and a road trip to Miami on Nov. 27.
As for conference foes, USF is scheduled to host Syracuse, Pittsburgh, Rutgers and Connecticut, and play on the road at Cincinnati, West Virginia and Louisville.

Well that’s at least 3 wins by my count.

I have gazed into the crystal ball and I see 4 Natl. TV games….having Holtz will help maybe get 1 or 2 more.
UM
WVU
PITT
RU
possible: UConn, UF
Friday night guarantee - WVU….always a great game!

For the fun of it, I’m guessing an 8-4 record in Holtz’s first season…I see losses at Florida, Miami, Cincinnati and at home vs. Pitt…hey, but Bulls finally beat Rutgers ... 5-2 in Big East would be an improvement…West Virginia on road is always tough though…anyway, plenty of time to speculate the next few months.

I agree mostly with what scott has to say, but I think we will pull off the upset on one of the two uf or um. Just my gut feeling.
GO BULLS!!!!

I’m not crazy about 8-4, and I don’t think USF fans would be at the end of the season, either. We get to beat 3 cupcakes: Stony Brook, W Ky, FAU; automatic loss to UM based on linemen size alone, a 1/3 chance against UF, a win v Syracuse, 50/50 Pittsburgh, probable L to Rutgers, 50/50 v Connecticut, L to Cincy, Win v WVa, 50/50 v Lville. That’s 6 1/2 tops based on a good Leavitt-run team, historically. If Holtz gets us 1.5 more wins, I guess that’s good, but by Dec fans won’t think so.

Last year, I said that if we beat FSU and UM I’d be okay of we lost every other game - and I would have been. This year, I want to beat UF and I don’t really care how many other wins we rack up. We probably WON’T beat UF, but it sure would be nice, and a HUGE milestone for recruiting and everything else. But I think Holtz HAS to finish better than .500 in conference play or his tenure will be a short one. Everyone knows I’m loyal and I’m patient, but my gut tells me that USF fans will not be very patient this year. By midseason there will be rumblings. That’s just how it is now.

8-4 is not bad if USF were to finish 5-2 in conference.
That is an improvement considering where we have been the past few years, the fact that this will be a first year staff, USF may possibly have no QBs who will ultimately compete for the starting job playing in the Spring and there are some holes to fill on both sides of the ball with his system in play.
8-4 (5-2) and a visit to the Champs after Holtz first season is improvement….alumni/fans/students would recognize that and would be thrilled with finally playing in a meaningful bowl.

Guys, with vast improvement of BE teams and with Cincy, Pitt, UCONN, and WVA being good bets for being ranked again, and with Rutgers up there as well, I’d think that an 8-4 first season under Holtz would be acceptable. Depending on season and how well the team progresses, then a possible 9-win season after bowl win would be a very successful first season. With 7 home games next season and playing UCONN here and with Holtz as HC, I can see USF finally breaking the hex against Rutgers. With Cincy away and L’ville away (USF never beats L’ville in KY for some reason?), and WVA away, if USF gets one away game win, I see minimum of 4-3 in conference with outside shot at 5-2 (iffy?).
