Sports can be funny sometimes.
Berkeley Prep junior setter/opposite hitter Mackenzie Dagostino has been a life long Buccaneer, white and blue all the way through. And who is Berkeley’s biggest rival? The Tampa Prep Terrapins. But in a wild twist of fate, Dagostino has decided to verbally commit to the University of Maryland…Terrapins.
“I’ll always be a Buc,” she said. “And now I’ll be a Maryland Terrapin.”
Dagostino, the daughter of Hall of Fame Berkeley Prep coach Randy Dagostino, helped the Buccaneers capture the Class 3A state championship last season and finished the year with 667 assists, 233 kills and 269 digs. She was later named to the Tribune’s All-Hillsborough County First-Team and a PrepVolleyball.com All-American Honorable Mention
Berkeley Prep, rated the No. 1 team in the nation by MaxPreps, is 6-0 on the season.
“At Maryland, it really clicked,” she said. “Now I can focus on really getting better.”
