TORONTO—The legendary Paul Meyer has the lineups from Pittsburgh, and Jason Bay is in the cleanup spot for the Pirates.
That doesn’t mean anything is or isn’t happening, necessarily, but you can bet the alert level would have gone up a couple notches if he wasn’t in the lineup.
As mentioned earlier this afternoon on the blog, there are no indications that a deal is on the verge of completion, but that could change pretty quickly. It seems from this vantage point that the Pirates are hoping they can leverage a higher level of prospects back from the Rays, and if that’s the case this could continue into tomorrow. I doubt the Rays would move much off their offer, however—they tend to be pretty firm in how they value various players.
Updating: For what it’s worth, Reid Brignac is in Durham’s lineup tonight.

Please no Hellickson. And definitely no Price or Davis. Niemann I’m ok with dealing as we would have Bay for next season also. Brignac or Niemann as the centerpiece, but not both, is a reasonable trade (with other middle-tier prospects included).
Brignac, albeit a very highly rated prospect, does not play near the defense that Bartlett does. In theory Brignac makes our lineup better, but sacrifices some of our middle infield defense. Just please, please, please do not give up Hellickson.

Nady was in the Pirates lineup the other day too…the key is if he stays in the lineup for the game tonight. Same goes for the Bulls tonight - watch the milb.com boxscore

Pirates are holding out… They want 2 top prospects in the 4 player deal for Bay. ESPN’s Stark says that they might wait until or (if) Manny gets traded from the BoSox. Boston would then be in need of a LF, naturally. So, to sum it up, it looks like we’re only trying to deplete the Yanks and Sox farm system in not trading for these guys, rather than of course, beat them which is sometimes nice I guess. We need to get Bay now before this Ramirez deal takes place.

ESPN is reporting that the Rays may be looking at Adam Dunn from the Reds. Any news on this Marc? The only thing I dont understand is he bats left, and we clearly need a right handed bat

The Rays need to make a deal, but I hope they can do it without giving up Brignac, he is the only decent middle
Suggest removalinfielder prospect they have. The #1 draft pick is years away and will probably become an outfielder. Besides
Niemann and Talbot, maybe some team will be as dumb as the Rays in the past and they will take Zobrist and Glover as well.

AP is reporting there may be a deal in the works between the Marlins, Red Sox and the Pirates that would be sending Bay to the Sox.
