King High 1B Keon Barnum gave a verbal commitment to play baseball at the University of Miami Friday night, King coach Jim Macaluso said.
Barnum hit .491 last season with 27 RBIs, six home runs, six doubles and one triple.
“Overall as a staff, they just do a great job with the kids on and off the field it seems like,” Macaluso said. “They’ve been to a ton of College World Series and that’s your ultimate goal. That’s a proven program that allows guys to be successful in college and also maybe a shot at pro ball later on.”
In August, Barnum played in this year’s Perfect Game All-American Classic, played in San Diego’s PETCO Park. In addition to Miami, University of South Florida, Florida, Tennessee and Central Florida showed interest in the slugger.
