Jesuit catcher Nolan Schultz has verbally committed to Trinity College in Connecticut.
According to Jesuit coach Richie Warren, Schultz turned down several offers from Ivy and Patriot League schools in making his decision to attend the Hartford, Conn. institution.
In 34 games for the Tigers this past season, Schultz hit and county-best .431 with 40 RBIs, 30 runs scored, nine doubles, six home runs and three triples. He was one of several key players in Jesuit’s appearance in the Class 4A state championship game for a second consecutive year.
Warren said the selection was due to the school’s high academic standing, which showed this past June when seven Trinity baseball players were selected to the New England Small College Athletic Conference 2011 Spring All-Academic team. He’ll join a Bantams squad that went 21-15 last season.
In all, Jesuit will have seven players signing a National Letter-of-Intent next Wednesday, including Joey Altieri (USF), Max Beermann (Villanova), Anthony Hamlin (Marist College), Vince Leto (USF), Lance McCullers (Florida) and Conor O’Brien (N.C. State).
