Former Alonso catcher Mike Fahrman is now a member of the University of Florida baseball team after a one-day try out.
Fahrman becomes one of several former Alonso and Hillsborough County players to hone their skills in the Gators baseball program. This past season, Tommy Toledo and Alex Panteliodis represented Alonso on the UF roster. In all, seven players from Hillsborough County played on last season’s College World Series finals team.
“It’s incredible. The attitude in this locker room and on the field, they have one goal in mind, just like at Alonso,” Fahrman said. “That’s just to win. Whatever it takes, just leave it all out on the filed. This is an incredible program.”
As a senior for the Ravens, Fahrman hit .390 with 25 runs scored, 17 RBIs, eight doubles and a homer, helping the team win its second state title in three years. During his time at Alonso, Fahrman caught pitcher Jose Fernandez, who was selected No. 14 overall in the MLB draft in June. Fernandez has a number of major league pitches, including his slider and 98 MPH fastball.
