USF sophomore Sam Barrington, expected to move into the starting lineup at middle linebacker and be one of the team’s defensive leaders, was arrested Wednesday afternoon on a misdemeanor charge of driving without a valid license.
Barrington spent almost five hours in jail after being pulled over near the intersection of Martin Luther King Boulevard and I-275 in Tampa. Barrington was released on a $250 bond shortly after 9 p.m. and will be due in court next month to face charges of multiple driving infractions.
Barrington’s arrest comes five days after former USF cornerback Jerome Murphy, a third-round pick of the St. Louis Rams in April’s NFL draft, was pulled over in Tampa and charged with driving without a valid license on Saturday afternoon.
The Bulls report for the start of fall practice a week from today.

Somehow I managed to get all the way through college (at USF) without getting arrested for ANYTHING. High school, too, for that matter. And for many years since - no arrests! I’m not sure I know anybody who HAS been arrested. Ever. For anything. Why is it that USF athletes get arrested several times a year?
