PHOENIX—Rocco Baldelli was expected to come off the disabled list Friday, but those plans may be on hold.
Baldelli tweaked the strained left hamstring that has kept him sidelined for more than a month while running out of the batter’s box in his final at-bat for Durham Monday night. Baldelli grounded out to shortstop to cap an 0-for-5 night that saw him play center field for the first time outside of extended spring training.
Rays executive vice president Andrew Friedman said Baldelli would remain in Durham for further examination Tuesday. No MRI is planned as of yet, and the Rays aren’t sure how significant a setback this might be. Considering Baldelli’s history of hamstring troubles, though, that Friday return date would seem to be in serious jeopardy.

The Rays should petiton MLB to allow having two players carry him around like that women’s b- ball player when she scammed the NCAA scoring record. It’s about the only way brittle man could stay on the field.
