OAKLAND—Jonny Gomes has about 1,000 people coming to the game today, but they’ll have to hope the big guy gets in as a pinch-hitter. Rocco Baldelli has been deemed healthy enough to return to the lineup as the DH, and as Joe Maddon said, “If Rocco is well, he’s got to assume the spot.” Today will also bring Jorge Cantu’s major-league debut as a first baseman. He’s confident he’ll be able to do the job defensively, but is most looking forward to getting four ABs.
