Riverview senior Michael Babinec was the area’s top finisher in the prestigious flrunners.com boys Race of Champions division Saturday in Titusville, taking 12th in 15:57. That was one spot and one second ahead of Chamberlain senior Max del Monte.
In the flrunners.com Invitational race, Wharton girls were sixth while Bloomingdale’s Julie Roggeman was the county’s top individual finisher, taking 17th in 20:09. Wharton was led by Tyler Watson, 48th in 21:17. Bloomingdale’s girls were 18th. St. Petersburg’s Alex Eaton was the overall winner of the division in 18:50.
Wharton’s boys raced in the Open Varsity division, where, led by Jayren Barginere’s 12th-place effort (17:51), took 10th place.
At the Don Bishop Invitational in Brandon on Saturday, Plant won the boys team title with a group of JV runners while Freedom’s girls won yet another team trophy, this time over a Plant girls squad, which also used JV athletes.
Don Bishop’s individual winners were Armwood’s Brandon Duncan (16:42) and Seffner Christian’s Sabrina Whiting (19:20).
