Nevin Ashely cleared waivers Wednesday afternoon and was outrighted to Triple A Durham.
The catcher was designated for assignment Jan. 13 to clear room on the 40-man roster for Luke Scott.
Ashley split last season between Double A Montgomery and Durham, batting .280 with six home runs and 33 RBIs in 279 at-bats for the Biscuits and .218 with two home runs and 15 RBIs in 101 at-bats with the Bulls.
Ashley, 27, was a sixth-round pick in the 2006 draft who impressed Rays manager Joe Maddon during spring training of 2010 when he batted .474 with a home run (off Josh Beckett) in nine games.
