Artyukhin suspended two games

Lightning forward Evgeny Artyukhin has been suspended for two games, starting with tonight’s game against Dallas. There has been no word from the league or the team, but Artyukhin said after he came off the ice that he spoke to the league on Sunday about his knee-on-knee hit with Florida’s Ville Peltonen during Saturday’s game.

Suspended for what?! Because they collided on the ice, and the other guy might’ve gotten a little more hurt than Arty? Arty’s a big guy, it’s not his fault! I highly doubt the play was inentional! But maybe the NHL should suspend Ovechkhin for giving Jamie Heward a concussion because THAT play looked dirty and inentional. Oh wait..the day the NHL does something constructive is the day that hell freezes over!

Way to keep things consistent. Ovechkin nearly kills Heward on a clear boarding call and gets nothing, while Arty tries to avoid hitting someone, gets off balance, hits someone else and gets a two game suspension. Maybe he said something about “sloppy seconds” while Peltonen was on the ice, that is the only way I can make sense of this…

To be fair, the Ovechkin hit could not be classified as dirty.

Are you trying to say that Arty’s hit was a dirty hit?

I think it would be pretty difficult to deliberately hit someone the way Arty hit Peltonen.  You would have to time that perfectly to hit knee to knee on purpose.  Crazy stuff here!

2 game suspension? On a chance and non deliberate collision? Firebettman.com
