Armwood senior wide receiver Javonte Sneed became the sixth Hawks player this year to make an early commitment to a Division I college when he made a verbal pledge to the University of South Alabama, Hawks coach Sean Callahan announced Sunday.
The 6-foot-1, 190-pound Sneed also had offers from the Unversity of South Florida, the University of Alabama-Birmigham and North Texas. Sneed said he chose the Jaguars because of the liklihood of playing time as a freshman.
“I want to play right away annd show those Alabama boys what I’m capable of doing,” Sneed said. “It kind of felt like home when I went up their to visit in July, even though it was my first time out of Florida.”
Sneed joins teammates Matt Jones (Florida), Eric Striker (Oklahoma), Cody Waldrop (South Carolina), Sheldon Lewinson (Wake Forest) and Jarvis McCall (USF) who have made a commitment months out from the official signing day in February, 2012.
Last year, Sneed made 13 catches for 318 yards and one touchdown for an impressive yard-per-catch of 24.4. So far this season, Sneed is on an even more torrid pace. He has two catches for 99 yards for touchdowns of 54 and 45 yards against Brandon in Week 2.
