Armwood junior safety Leon McQuay III has landed a trio of scholarship offers in the last two weeks from major college football programs, receiving pitches from a Michigan coach in person on Friday night and, last weekend, offers from Georgia Tech and UCLA, his father, Leon McQuay, Jr., confirmed Monday.
With these latest offers, McQuay now has 12 schools seeking his football talents. Already on the list were Tennessee, Florida, Vanderbilt, South Florida, Florida State, Notre Dame, Boston College, Ohio State and Alabama-Birmingham.
The 6-foot-2, 180-pound McQuay is one of the most gifted and versatile athletes in Hillsborough County. Last spring, he played soccer for the Hawks at forward and, in track, competed in the jumps, sprints and hurdles.
