Armwood junior safety Leon McQuay III received yet another prestigious accolade this week when he landed an early invitation to the Under Armour All-America Game for 2013.
The seniors-only game features some of the nation’s top high school players and is televised nationally on ESPN. The next game is slated for January 5 at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg. The first game was played in 2008 and this year’s NFL Draft was the first time Under Armour alumni were eligible to be chosen by pro teams. NFL selections included two first-round picks, Julio Jones and A.J. Green, as well as second-round selections Da’Quan Bowers and Brandon Harris, all of whom played in the inaugural game.
Early invitations to this all-star game seem to be an indication of how competitive it is to land commitments from players trying to decide between participating in Under Armour or the U.S. Army All-America Game, which is also played in January each year. McQuay’s father says his son, who has already been named on multiple all-American teams and has received numerous Division I scholarship offers as a junior, has not yet received an Army invite but he is expecting one later this year.
