USF picked up its ninth commitment for the 2012 recruiting class on Saturday, getting a verbal pledge from Armwood High senior cornerback Jarvis McCall, Hawks coach Sean Callahan confirmed.
McCall, listed as a 3-star recruit by Rivals.com and a 2-star recruit Scout.com, had reported offers from UCF, Vanderbilt, Florida International and Indiana, among others.
“He’s a good-looking guy. He walks by you and he’s impressive,” Callahan said of the 6-foot-2, 185-pound McCall. “He’s got a lot of potential.”
McCall, in his second year as a starter for the Hawks, had 28 tackles, one interception and eight passes defensed in 2010.
McCall joins teammates Matt Jones (Florida), Eric Striker (Oklahoma), Cody Waldrop (South Carolina) and Sheldon Lewinson (Wake Forest) as an early commitment.
PREGAME NOTES: USF will be without senior receiver Joel Miller and sophomore cornerback/safety JaQuez Jenkins for tonight’s game against Ball State. Jenkins is sitting out with a hamstring injury, but we’re still waiting to hear on why Miller is not dressed.
