Armwood senior receiver Richard Jules has picked up his first scholarship offer, according to Hawks coach Sean Callahan. It came from Gardner-Webb, a Football Championship Subdivision program (formerly Division I-AA) that competes in the Big South Conference.
Jules was one of the Hawks’ top pass catchers in 2009, finishing with 19 receptions for 329 yards and four touchdowns.
Meanwhile, Callahan said senior Sherman Jessie has committed to Butler (Kan.) Community College, one of the nation’s top junior college programs.
Jessie was one of the Hawks’ most versatile players this season. After spending his first two varsity seasons on offense as a running back, Jessie played both ways as a senior, shifting to the defensive backfield midway through the season to help shore up Armwood’s secondary. He finished with 500 total yards (rushing and receiving) and four touchdowns on offense, and 16 tackles and an interception on defense.
