Armwood’s Edwards injures knee

As Armwood coach Sean Callahan says, “there’s never a dull moment at Armwood.”

This week’s strange turn of events: senior running back Wade Edwards, who is someting of an ironman due to his lack of injuries over the years, stepped out of his car Monday night after practice and felt the back of his left knee give way.

It’s likely just a slight sprain but Edwards, who rushed for a career-high 248 yards and three touchdowns in Friday’s Class 6A state semifinals win over Bartram Trail, said he had trouble walking on the leg that night. Still limping Tuesday, Edwards was held out of practice and instead received treatment from one of the busiest trainers in the area, Denise Andresky.

Callahan expects Edwards to play in Saturday’s state title game against Miami Central in the Orlando Citrus Bowl but for a team already dealing with the nagging ankle injury of Matt Jones, Edwards’ injury is unsettling. Edwards came up big for the Hawks against Bartram Trail after Jones was forced out of the game when Jones aggravated the ankle injury.
