Two of the key players from Armwood’s 2011 state title team are finally getting some interest and offers from college coaches.
This week, running back Wade Edwards, the Hawks’ No. 3 rusher last fall and top scorer on the ground with 12 toucdowns, and defensive lineman Allen Covington both picked up an offer from the University of Akron.
The Zips recently named former Auburn coach Terry Bowden as their head coach. When introduced last month at Akron, Bowden, the son of former Florida State coach Bobby Bowden, said he was confident he can return the Zips to their former glory. Bowden replaced Rob Ianello, who was sacked in November after consecutive 1-11 records in the Mid-American Conference school.
Edwards also has offers from Kent State, Youngstown State and Stony Brook. Covington, Armwood’s No. 3 tackler (92) and leading sacker (11), has additional offers from Toledo and Florida Atlantic.
