Before his senior season is over at Armwood, Hawks defensive lineman Allen Covington will likely have several other Division I college scholarship offers. But he finally landed his first one when Colorado State University made him a pitch late last week, Armwood head coach Sean Callahan confirmed Wednesday.
The 6-foot-2, 255 pound Covington leads the Hawks’ highly-touted defense in sacks with six, is No. 2 on the team in tackles with 58, has one interception and returned it 30 yards for a score against his former team, Tampa Bay Tech, has knocked down three passes, caused a fumble and recovered one.
Already this season, seven Hawks players have made early commitments and the squad could see another half dozen earn full rides before signing day in early February.
If Covington choses CSU, he would join former Hillsborough High star receiver Charles Lovett, who is playing for the Rams this fall as a true freshman.
