Hillsborough County:

Armwood Trio Impressed With UNC Visit

Armwood rising senior football players Mywan Jackson, Angelo Hadley and Ryne Giddins have always said the North Carolina Tar Heels were in the picture to land their services, but the Atlantic Coast Conference program may have moved up a bit higher on each of the Hawks’ respective lists after the trio made an unofficial visit to the Chapel Hill campus this past weekend.

All three players said they walked away from the campus very impressed with what they saw and heard from the Tar Heels’ coaching staff, and that UNC remains firmly in the mix of schools each players is considering. All three players carry scholarship offers from UNC.

The high remarks each gave the school ranged from the campus sites, to the facilities to the individual coaches they spoke with, which included UNC head coach Butch Davis.

“It was wonderful,” said Hadley, who was sporting some UNC gear during Armwood’s offseason conditioning drills Tuesday.

Armwood has a few notable ties to the UNC program. Current Hawks assistant Keith Newman, who along with fellow assistant Evan Davis served as chaperones for the trip to Chapel Hill, played collegiately at UNC. In addition, Kirk Callahan, the eldest son of Armwood coach Sean Callahan, is in his first year as a graduate assistant with the Tar Heels.

Giddins, for instance, said he is likely going to make an official visit to UNC during the season. Hadley and Jackson also said UNC was among the better schools they’ve seen so far this summer, a list that includes most of the in-state programs.

Whether or not any of the three end up in Chapel Hill remains to be seen, but it seems UNC at least has a chance to land some of Armwood’s Class of 2009 prospects.

“They really had a good time,” Sean Callahan said. “They really clicked well with everything.”

Great news out of Seffner, that would be sweet to see all three play together somewhere.

Mywan is one THE most versatile athlete around.

Hadley is a very smart and aggressive football player.

Giddins may be one of the best football players to ever wear a uniform in Hillsborough County.

Enjoy the recruiting process gentlemen.  You only do it once.  Best of luck

Congratulations guys, UNC would do very well if they can land any of them.

Sure it’s a tough school academically but they’ll make sure to provide the right academic support if any of the players that might need it.  It’s a pretty compelling case for the players as well.  They get a chance to play in the ACC and a scholarship to earn a degree from one of the best schools in the nation.  Doesn’t get much better than that!

UNC is a great academic school.  These guys will really have to have their grades together as well.  Good luck!
