A receiver on the Armwood High state championship football team was arrested Thursday on armed robbery charges, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office.
Javonte Sneed was released from the Hillsborough County jail after posting bail set at $15,000, according to jail records.
Sneed and two others confronted a man in the area of 124th Avenue early Thursday and took his jewelry and money, said Debbie Carter, a spokeswoman for the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office.
The investigative report said one of the suspects had a handgun; Carter wasn’t sure which one.
The sheriff’s office arrested Sneed at 1:15 a.m. at 131st Avenue and 22nd Street in Tampa. Deputies also arrested Ronnie Scott, 16, of Tampa; a third suspect remains at large, Carter said.
Sneed, a wide receiver for the Class 6A state champion Hawks, made a verbal commitment to South Alabama in September.
The 6-foot-1, 190-pound Sneed also had offers from the University of South Florida, the University of Alabama-Birmingham and North Texas. He had 23 receptions this season for 431 yards and also threw a touchdown pass in the state title game Dec. 17.
