Armwood RB Matt Jones, injured during the second half of Friday’s 49-3 win at Largo, is expected to be fine for next week’s Class 4A regional final against Punta Gorda Charlotte, Coach Sean Callahan said immediately after Friday’s game.
On his first carry of Friday’s second half, Jones went down with a left achilles’ injury. He was helped off the field and tended to by a trainer, and expected to warm back up and re-enter the game. But Callahan gave him the rest of the night off as the Hawks led comfortably.
Jones, Armwood’s leading rusher entering the postseason, only got four carries in the Hawks’ first playoff game against Sickles due to injury. He had 10 carries for 48 yards against the Packers.
