Armwood’s football team continued to receive national recognition Thursday when the Hawks were ranked No. 10 in the USA Today’s Super 25 poll.
Armwood is already ranked No. 2 in the nation in by MaxPreps and the Hawks have more than a half dozen players ranked among the country’s best at various positions. USA Today noted the squad’s massive offensive line and acknowledged the knee injury to star running back Matt Jones will keep him on the sidelines for the first few weeks of the season, including the season opener on national TV Aug. 26 against host Las Vegas Bishop Gorman.
Speaking of the Gaels, Bishop Gorman is also on the Super 25 list, at No. 13. The Gaels Gaels have won three of the last four Class 4A state titles in Nevada and have just four losses in the past four years. While Armwood is know for its defense, Bishop Gorman features a powerful offense led by quarterback Anu Soloman, who passed for 41 touchdowns and 2,419 yards last season.
Like the MaxPreps poll, New Jersey’s Don Bosco Prep, which has won 35 straight games and five consecutive state titles, is ranked No. 1 in the nation. Fort Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas, which beat Plant in last year’s Florida Class 5A state championship game, is No. 2 on the USA Today list.
