Two of the areas top tennis players have verbally committed to colleges.
Hillsborough’s Jackson Murphy, the Terriers No. 1 singles player last year, committed to the University of Miami, Brandon Sports & Aquatic Center tennis director Allen Liberato said. And Jon Ho, a member of Wharton’s Class 4A state championship team in 2010, committed to Wake Forest.
Both players train at Brandon Sports & Aquatic Center.
Last season, Murphy helped lead Hillsborough to its second-consecutive state tournament. He advanced to the semifinals of the Class 3A No. 1 singles competition.
Ho did not compete for Wharton last season, but as a sophomore in 2010, he helped the Wildcats win their third-consecutive state championship. He helped get Wharton decisive points as the No. 4 singles champion and with the No. 2 doubles championship, along with Ben Hwang.
