TAMPA – Another name has surfaced in the Bucs search for a new quarterbacks coach.
According to footballscoop.com, former Bears QBs coach Pep Hamilton is in the running for a job that also drawn interest from former Chiefs QBs coach Terry Shea and University of Washington QBs coach Doug Nussmeier.
Hamilton played quarterback at Howard University from 1993-96 and began his coaching career there as well, coaching quarterbacks from 1997-2001 and serving as offensive coordinator from 199-2001.
Hamilton joined the New York Jets coaching staff as an offensive quality control coach in 2002 and coached Jets quarterbacks in 2004 and Jets receivers in 2005.
He served the San Francisco 49ers as a quarterbacks coach in 2006, then jumped to the Bears in 2007. He was fired by the Bears earlier this month during their offensive housecleaning.
One name that has yet to surface in the Bucs search is that of former Redskins coach Jim Zorn. Zorn is said to be the favorite to take over as the Baltimore Ravens quarterbacks coach, but the Bucs may have an interest in him as well.
Bucs General Manager Mark Dominik said earlier this week that he plans to interview a couple of candidates for the QB coach’s position and the receivers coach’s position this week and hopes to announce his choices by Friday.
