A couple weeks ago, a media outlet mentioned Jim Leavitt’s name as a possibility for the Kansas State football job. He isn’t.
On Wednesday, Mike Griffith, the University of Tennessee’s basketball writer for the Knoxville-News Sentinel, wrote in his blog that “Leavitt can be added to the list of candidates [to replace football coach Phil Fulmer], according to the [UT] source.”
Griffith’s blog also said that Cincinnati’s Brian Kelly is the leading candidate, with Griffith attributing to a source inside the UT football program.
Again, for what it’s worth, Griffith is the Vols’ basketball writer and this was not reported by the News-Sentinel’s UT football beat writers.
BULLS LOSE HEARTBREAKER: USF sophomore Dominique Jones missed a shot in the final seconds and USF dropped a 77-75 decision at Virginia on Wednesday night.
Jones led the Bulls with 23 points and five assists and Jesus Verdejo added a career-high 22 points, including 4-for-7 from 3-point range. Chris Howard had 10 points before fouling out. Alex Rivas Sanchez, who is coming off leg injuries, played 29 minutes and had 10 points and nine rebounds but suffered an ankle injury in the final minute.
The Bulls (1-1) host High Point on Tuesday night.í

brett…are you going to be able to go to any away games? and are you going to cove rall the home games or just the conference schedule?

I don’t think Leavitt will wind up in Tenn. Any chance he had, whether he would want the job or not, went bye-bye with this latest slide.
That’s also a high profile job with lots of media attention and that’s not Jimbo’s cup of tea.

I went to the game last night and I think the difference in the # of fouls was legitimate. UVA seemed to be better positioned for rebounds than our guys and that led to the fouls. On a good note, I was very impressed with our defense most of the night. Also, once Alex Rivas Sanchez came in our rebounding ability was drastically improved.

Jeffrey, yes it’s the economy and the newspaper business as a whole.

Replace “coach has to make believe… with “coach has to make them believe…” in earlier blog.

If I’m UT, what’s the chances of taking Leavitt - who’s lost 3 straight to Cincy - over Kelly, the coach who defeated Leavitt 3 straight. Unless Kelly turns down this opportunity, then we’ll see ol’ Jimbo here for at least another year or two or maybe three.

To be fair, Howard shot well from the field going 5 for 9.
Usf had 12 ft’s to uva’s 28 ft’s, home cookin’?
The Tribune did not send a reporter to this game?
Is it the economy?

This team can win games. Verdejo and Jones form an an excellent backcourt and can compete against anyone in the country. Therefore, I take no moral victory from losing by 2 points to UVA.
This coach has to make believe that they will make their free throws.
Also, we need more depth with Mercer and Gilchrist.
I admire Chris Howard for battling back from two acl repairs. This kid is simply not a starter. He finishes 1-2 from the line, he is listed at 6’3” and has two rebounds and his a-to ratio is 3-5. That ain’t getting done. He needs to give the team a lift off the bench.

Bob, good question. Don’t know when/if the Tribune will send me to any away basketball games.
