There were only 14,172 in the crowd and not sure how many others were paying attention, but the United Football League on Friday held its 2011 championship game, one that featured three former USF football players.

Kicker Delbert Alvarado and receiver Huey Whittaker helped the Virginia Destroyers defeat the Las Vegas Locomotives, 17-3, at the Virginia Beach Sportsplex. Defensive back Trae Williams played for Las Vegas.

Alvarado had a 21-yard field goal and was 2-for-2 on extra point attempts while Whittaker contributed one tackle on special teams in the win. Williams appeared on the Locomotives’ participation report but not on the final stat sheet.

It was the second time this year a USF player has been a part of a professional football team that won a league championship. Former defensive lineman Richard Clebert was part of the Jacksonville Sharks’ 2011 Arena Football League title team.
