Bucs Report
Alstott not done yet

Mike Alstott is slated to throw out the first pitch before the Rays’ April 8 home opener against the Mariners.

The full press release:

Mike Alstott, former All-Pro fullback who recently retired from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, will throw out the ceremonial first pitch on Tuesday, April 8 when the Tampa Bay Rays host the Seattle Mariners in the Rays 2008 home opener at Tropicana Field.

A six-time National Football League selection, Alstott spent his entire 12-year career with the Bucs before announcing his retirement on January 24.  He scored a team record 71 touchdowns and rushed for over 5,000 yards during his career, and in 2003 led the Bucs to victory in Super Bowl XXXVII.

“Mike’s accomplishments transcend the excellence he has displayed on the football field,” said Rays President Matt Silverman. “He is a great role model and his charitable contributions have made Tampa Bay a better place to live. The Rays are proud to honor Mike for his career, his character and his ongoing contributions to the Tampa Bay community. ”

A St. Petersburg resident and Rays season ticket holder, Alstott has a long history of community involvement.  His latest achievement was the establishment of the Mike Alstott Family Foundation which is dedicated to assisting needy families and children in the Tampa Bay area.

I think it’s great they chose Mike to do this. However, I think they should take it a step further and induct him into the Fan Hall of Fame that is in the stadium. He is a season ticket holder and great representative for the community.

Good choice Devil Rays.

The man’s a class act.

Make sure the trop is bolted together well because I promise the applause will be earth shattering.

Kudos for the A-Train, though I’m not sure what you mean in saying he is/was “A six-time National Football League selection”.

Nobody proofreads these days.
