Alonso safety Jordan Davis, one of the Ravens’ leading tacklers this fall and a standout in track last spring, made a verbal commitment to Florida International University on Saturday.
Among others, Davis also had offers from South Alabama, the University of Massachusetts, Eastern Illinois, Youngstown State, the University of Alabama-Birmingham and North Texas. He had narrowed his list to FIU, South Alabama and Massachusetts but chose the Golden Panthers after a recent visit to the school.
“I just feel like they really want me there,” said the 6-foot-1, 193-pound Davis. “I really like the whole coaching staff and I feel like this is a good opportunity for me to grow and develop as a player and a student.”
Entering Friday’s game against Wharton, Davis was No. 4 in tackles for the Ravens with 56. He is also a standout triple and long jumper for the Alonso track team. He said he plans to graduate in June before heading to FIU in Miami-Dade County. He will join two other county athletes who made recent commitments to FIU, Jefferson’s Adrian Jenkins and Tampa Bay Tech’s Lamarq Caldwell.
